Today we have be asked to explain the legal and ethical issues in relation to the use of business information
This explanation is in relation to FACE BOOK!.
How Face book complies with the:
Data Protection Act 1998- Although i am a devout Face Book user i hate to admit that they do not stick to the Data Protection Act in two ways one, they do not make it clear when you sign up that unless you specifically adjust your privacy setting your information is open to anyone, for instances there was a girl on there recently that puts lots of pictures of here kids on their as all we proud parents do and some awful people wrote obscene remarks on the photo absolutely awful. Two people are allowed to deactivate there account but Face Book still keep your information on their system in case you decide to activate your account they should not really be allowed to keep your information. I read on the channel for website that you have to delete everything you have done on Face Book to completely delete your account which would take a long time. I have posted the website from the channel four article:

Freedom of information act 2000-
Their is so much information available on Face Book for users to read so its certainly not breaking the freedom of information because its very forthcoming with giving information to users.
Computer misuse Act 1990-

How Face book it deals with ethical issues using organisational policies and codes of proactive, such use of email, Internet, whistle blowing.
Face book deals with issues by setting out codes of practises such as the statement of right and responsibilities which sates what the users can and can't do and what Face book are responsible for. If a users breaks the rules then they will be liable and as face book has stated their rules then they are covered from any legal action.

Statement of Rights and Responsibilities
The Statement of Rights and Responsibilities is Face books terms of service that governs the relationship with users and others who interact with Face book.

Examples of Face book security and privacy issues:
  • Here is an example of face book breaching privacy:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/facebook/8070513/Facebook-admits-inadvertent-privacy-breach.html
  • In this example it tells of a flaw that allows people to delete other messages.
In conclusion to my comments i think that this shows that even though they have rules to protect the users, Face book doesn't always stick to its own rules.

  1. I think you make an excellent point that Facebook doesn't always stick to its own rules and definitely agree that they have done wrong and probably should have done more tests on their security when it comes to hacking. However not every company can contain hackers especially when most of them are very determined. Still I think you made an excellent point.
